Shabnam Gani to contest election as independent candidate

Srinagar : Shabnam Gani Lone daughter of Late Abdul Gani Lone of Kupwara has decided to contest the state assembly election from Kupwara constituency.

Advocate by profession, Shabnam Gain Lone is contesting as independent candidate from Kupwara, the north district of Kashmir.

The Kupwara is the north district of Kashmir valley which is going to polls for five seats of Karnah, Kupwara, Lolab, Handwara and Langate on November 30, 2008.

The Kupwara district is having 341946 electors and a total of 448 polling booths are being set up across the north Kashmir district of Kupwara.

Kupwara Assembly segment leads the district with the largest electorate of 90,805 which includes 47,131 male and 43,674 female voters, said in official communication.

The state is under governor’s rule and the voting will be done in seven phased polls to elect 87 members Assembly.

“Shabnum has a chance to win in Kupwara constituency as her father has done a lot for the area” said Advocate Bushan Lal Pandita, a Kashmiri Pandit who originally belongs to the same district and now resides in Jammu.
