Manmohan promises Liberhan leak probe

By Manish Chand, IANS,

Washington : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday said he regretted the leak of the Liberhan Commission report on the Babri Masjid demolition and assured a probe into the incident when he returns to India next week.

"Mujhe khed hai (I regret it)," said Manmohan Singh when asked about the leakage of the Liberhan Commission report that has created a political storm in India.

"It happened when I was away. It should not have happened. We will investigate who (was) responsible for it," the prime minister said.

"I will discuss it with the home minister and other dignitaries when I return to India," Manmohan Singh said on the last day of his four-day state visit to the US.

The voluminous report, which was tabled in parliament Tuesday by Home Minister P. Chidambaram, had rocked both houses of the Indian parliament following reports about its alleged leakage.

Manmohan Singh heads to Port of Spain Thursday to attend the Commonwealth summit before returning to India Nov 30.
