It should be noted that to discuss the issue of caste based census and reservation, the representatives of the Muslim community had formed “Co-Ordination Committee for Census and Reservation” in a meeting organized by the Institute of Objective Studies on 19th June at Constitution Club.

The Committee has representatives of nearly all the prominent Muslim organizations which are working in the sphere of socio-economic, political and religious empowerment of Indian Muslims. This meeting was called up to sort out and resolve the disagreements which had come up among its members in its first meeting on 23rd of June 2010.

On this occasion the members of the Committee were of the view that “the proposal of caste based census by certain political parties is a part of a well thought out design in which it’s related to the issue of reservation. So we should do our home work before taking this issue forward and approaching the government with any proposal”

The participants unanimously decided to bring out a ‘conceptual note’ without any delay, after consulting all the stake holders in this issue and to organize a meeting of Muslim MPs in order to ensure that the interests of the community should be safe guarded and it should be well represented in the meeting of Group of Ministers.

Dr. Manzoor Alam, chairman of IOS, Mujtaba Farooque from Jamate Islami Hind, Dr. Qasim Rasool Ilyas from All India Muslim Personal Law Board and Nawaid Hamid from Movement of Empowerment of Indian Muslims were prominent among the people who attended the meeting.
