New Delhi: Special Police Officer Ismail Khan is recovering in Dantewada hospital. He is one of the survivors of the Monday brutal attack by Maoists in Dantewada, in which 36 people, including 12 Special Police Officers (SPOs), were killed when the bus carrying them was blown up.
The toll could have been much higher as more than 75 people were traveling in the public bus had Ismail Khan not acted bravely.
Khan fought against the Maoists for an hour. After blowing up the bus, the Maoists opened fire from behind bushes. Khan also did a commendable job by shifting several injured and thus saving the lives of many SPOs at the spot. Khan halted passing vehicles and asked the drivers to take the injured to the nearest hospital.
