Azmi, who has been pressed into UP with an eye on muslim vote bank was addressing partymen after an iftar hosted by one Lal Amin Saheb in Gorakhpur on Tuesday.

“Muslims should remember that no one had cared for them and Mulayam has taken a bold step and sought forgiveness for his bonhomie with erstwhile BJP leader Kalyan Singh. It is now our duty to repay his debt and support him,” said Azmi. The leader who had shot into news after he was manhandled by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) legislators inside Maharashtra assembly however did not seem to be in a mood to accept estranged SP leader Azam Khan into partyfold. “It is the decision of the party supremo and we will accept it but I totally disagree in going the extreme way and annoying others. Anyone who has faith in party idealogy is welcome and there should not be any special consideration for some,” he claimed.

In an veiled attack over the rise of Peace Party in Gorakhpur region, Azmi urged the muslims to remain united and not carried away by inflammatory speeches. “Some fringe parties are in fray just to divide the muslim votes. Once it happens they will serve the purpose of their masters by giving them victory in a platter,” he said. The Gorakhpur based Peace Party of India has recently usurped the mantle of muslim friendly tag from Mulayam when his party was relegated to fourth position forfeiting its deposit in recently concluded Dumariaganj by-polls.

Azmi who was also accompanied by state minority cell chief Ataur Rehman also admitted that terror acts are also being executed by some hindu fundamentalists in Maharashtra and other parts of the country. “There is no denial of their involvement but I solidly believe that terror has no religion or colour. Every terror act is against humanity and every relgion denounces it,” he said.
