The Gandhi-Advani marked the election campaign ahead of the first round of polling in Assam Monday.

“While the Congress always stood for development in Assam, the AGP (Asom Gana Parishad) and BJP were able to do nothing for the state due to their wrong and lopsided policies,” Gandhi told a massive election rally in Nilambazar in southern Assam.

Gandhi was on a day-long visit to Assam to address three election rallies – Nilambazar, Bokajan and Khumtai.

“In every election, we found the AGP and BJP making tall promises and giving people false hope. I urge you all not to get carried away by their false promises,” Gandhi said.

Advani too went on the offensive, attacking the Congress both in Assam and at the centre.

“The central government is run not by Manmohan Singh but by Sonia Gandhi. She runs both the party and the government,” Advani told an election rally in Khumtai.

“I find it very amusing to hear the prime minister saying ‘I don’t know,’ ‘I have not done this’. Such an attitude is not good for democracy when the prime minister is being dictated by the party president Sonia Gandhi.”

Advani also fauled the Congress-led central government for corruption, price rise and black money.

Assam goes to the polls April 4 and 11 to elect the 126-member legislature.
