GCCI chairman Manguirish Pai Raikar said Thursday after meeting Goa Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao that there could be an active collaboration with the Church on creating jobs in the “skilled and unskilled sectors”.

“The Archbishop welcomed these ideas and said this was one of his own thrust areas,” Raikar said in a statement.

“He said he would arrange visits to colleges and schools where the GCCI could bring in resource persons to explain to the students the opportunities and advantages of starting one’s own business.”

He said the GCCI would tie up with educational institutes run by religious institutions, including the Church, to re-orient students towards trade and entrepreneurship, rather than employment.

“By promoting entrepreneurship we would encourage the youth to start their own businesses instead of looking for employment,” Raikar said.
