New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission today was shocked when a CPI-M delegation apprised the body of the blatant violation of human rights in the Forbesganj police firing. The NHRC assured the delegation it would look into the case and take necessary action.
NHRC chairman Justice K.G. Balakrishnan gave the assurance to Brinda Karat and Hannan Mollah who met him on this issue here today. He was shocked to hear of the barbarity of a policeman jumping on the dead body of Mustafa Ansari who had been killed in the police firing on 3rd June in Bhajanpur village under Forbesganj block in Araria district. The CPI-M leaders submitted him a memorandum on the firing and their demands.
The memorandum highlights the fact that the firing was unwarranted and unprovoked, no senior members of the administration have cared to visit the families and no action has been taken to lodge FIRs against the guilty police personnel or the MLC Ashok Aggarwal.
The CPI-M demanded that “an FIR under charges of murder must be registered against Aggarwal and the police involved, if the ends of justice are to be served.”
The party while seeking the intervention of the NHRC in the case urged the body to take step for immediate relief and to ensure adequate compensation for the victims, all of whom belonged to very poor worker families.
