“Down with anti-poor policies of the government. Reverse the hike in diesel, cooking gas and kerosene prices,” said the slogan-shouting youth gathered at the Press Enclave.

According to the hike announced by the central government Friday, diesel has become costlier by Rs.3 per litre, kerosene by Rs.two per litre and a cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used as cooking gas by Rs.50.

“It is now definite that various transporters operating public transport vehicles would also raise passenger fares. Vegetables, pulses and edible oils will also become dearer after the hike,” said Sajad Ahmad, a youth who joined the anti-price hike protests.

“The common man is always squeezed from all sides. No politician in power is bothered about us. They will come crawling on their bellies during the elections to take our votes and then conveniently forget us for another five or six years,” he added.
