The RJD members entered the assembly holding placards demanding allotment of adequate piece of land for the campus and shouting slogan against the apathy of the state government towards the issue.

Raising the issue in the house, Akhtarul Iman, RJD MLA from Kochadaman of Kishanganj, said: “The state government promised last year to allot the 250 acres land required for AMU campus in Kishanganj but so far it has been dodging the matter while the same government handed over 488 acres land to Nalanda International University to be opened by the Union government.”

Saying that “while West Bengal and Kerala allotted 255 and 392 acres lands respectively for AMU off campuses and classes were stared there, the Bihar government failed to provide the land for the purpose,” Mr. Imam feared that “If the matter is not solved within six months, AMU might withdraw its proposal to establish the campus in Kishanganj.”

Kishanganj is one of the most backward Muslim dominated districts so the AMU center will play a key role in the educational upliftment of the region but it is alleged that the state government is apathetic towards the whole project.

Mr. Imam alleged that government is not providing land under pressure from the BJP student’s wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad that opened campaign against the setting up of AMU center in Kishanganj.

Joining the debate Dr. Javed Akhter, MLA from Kishanganj, said: “Despite having several acres of land in the district, government proposed land in two pieces that was rejected by AMU administration which shows that government is not interested in minority related issues.”

LJP MLA Noshad Alam and RJD MLA Dr. Abdul Ghafoor also raised the issue in the house. But these members walked out of the Assembly when Rami Ram, Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms, replied that “the government is ready to provide the land in two pieces but perhaps you are not ready to take it.”
