Indonesia students get a taste of Indian culture

Jakarta : Indonesians from the historic city of Yogyakarta were treated to a scintillating dance performance by artistes from Manipur at a cultural programme held by the Jawaharlal Nehru Indian Cultural Centre.

The “Slice of India” programme was held at the Atma Jaya University in Yogyakarta as part of efforts by the centre to reach out to different universities in Indonesia and showcase Indian culture to them.

The programme presented the rich traditions and culture of India which emphasizes unity in diversity, according to the Indian embassy.

It included a short film on India, a discussion on preservation of culture in modern times, a presentation on similarities in culture and tradition between the two countries, and a show of traditional dresses from various Indian states by Indonesian students.

The highlight of the show was a scintillating Manipuri dance performance.

About 300 people attended the show and a photo exhibition depicting 60 years of bilateral relations between the countries.
