Jind (Haryana) : A court here Friday sentenced, to life imprisonment, the two youth who gang-raped a Dalit girl in this Haryana district last year.
The court sentenced the two youth, Pradeep and Naveen, after convicting them for the gang-rape in Sachhakhera village here last October. A third youth had locked the room to stop the victim from escaping.
The victim, aged 16 years and belonging to a Dalit community, had set herself ablaze after the gang-rape.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited the village, forcing the state government and police to act in the matter. She had assured the family of the victim that they would get full justice.
The mother of the victim had said that if the family was not given justice and the accused were not given severe punishment, she would commit suicide herself. The victim had six other younger siblings.
