Orphaned children of Boko to move to children’s village
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi consoling the orphan children who lost their parents in the recent flood at Boko on 30-09-2014.

On Tuesday, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi who visited the flood affected area for the second time in a week’s time also interacted with the kids.

“According to the convenience of their relatives and neighbours after performing the last rites and the Durga puja, we will shift the kids to the children village,” Rakhi Chakraborty, special officer to Assam chief minister said.

It was bit difficult for the government to convince their relatives and neighbours for their shift due to rumours and misunderstanding among the villagers.

“Due to rumours, the villagers misunderstood our initiative to bring the children to SO village. But later they realized and allowed us to do so. Here the children will be taken care of properly and they will be able to resume their studies as well. It was an emotional affair for their relatives but we need to think for the future of the kids,” Chakraborty who visited the kids at their village added.

The state government will bear the expanses of their education and other amenities.

Earlier, three children who became orphans during the ethnic clashes at Baksa this year were rehabilitated at SOS Children’s Village, Hojai as well. The state government is bearing all the expenses for their education and upbringing. “It’s very encouraging for us to hear that these three kids are doing great. They have recovered from their shock and have been responding very well,” she said.

The villagers also expressed their gratitude for the state government for taking the responsibility of the orphaned kids.

So far, at least 37 people were killed in Goalpara and Kamrup district in flood during the last several days.

Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CM Tarun Gogoi said that the Prime Minister did not even come out with a statement sharing the woes of the people of Assam at their hour of distress. “The Prime Minister not only ignored the Brahmaputra in his address at Madison Square Garden, he also did not take up the issue of construction of dams on the Brahmaputra by China during his talks with the Chinese President despite the serious concerns expressed by the people of Assam,” Gogoi said.
