Tehran : Speaker of the Iranian parliament (Majlis), Ali Larijani, has praised the team that negotiated the nuclear deal with the world powers for observing the redlines, but said that Iran would continue its independent foreign policy, Iran’s official IRNA news agency reported on Monday.
The nuclear negotiations helped to defeat the enemies’ plot to isolate Iran in the world, Larijani said on Sunday.
He underlined that the nuclear negotiators understood the critics’ concerns and respected the redlines in the nuclear talks with the P5+1 group of world powers, comprising the US, Britain, France, Russia, China, plus Germany.
On April 2, Iran and the P5+1 group reached a framework nuclear deal after marathon talks in the Swiss city of Lausanne, calling, among other things, for the removal of UN Security Council (UNSC) sanctions against Iran.
Announcing key elements of the deal, European Union (EU) foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, said that Iran’s enrichment capacity and stockpile would be limited, and its sole enrichment facility would be at the Natanz nuclear facility. Other nuclear facilities would be converted for other uses, she added.
US President Barack Obama said that the world powers have reached a “historic understanding with Iran, which, if fully implemented, will prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon”.
A comprehensive deal is expected by the end of June.
