Educational development seminar for minority students held in Guwahati

Guwahati: About 40 meritorious students from different parts of the Northeast region who participated in the Educational Development Seminar (EDS) in Guwahati have expressed great satisfaction. The seminar attended a host of prominent personalities came to an end on Sunday.

Muslim Education Trust, New Delhi disburses interest free IDB loan scholarships for meritorious but financially needy minority community students seeking admission in the under-graduate professional courses in the fields of medicine, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, food technology, microbiology, biotechnology and integrated courses in bachelor of business administration and bachelor of law and other professional courses.

“It was indeed a great platform of us to enhance our skills to face the world in the days to come. We are really glad to interact with prominent personalities of different fields through this programme,” said Harun Rashid one of the students who participated in the three day seminar.

The interest free loan scholarship is provided by the Muslim Education Trust every year as a community development programme.

The Trust organised an Educational Development Seminar (EDS) for 40 students from Manipur, Meghalaya, and those districts of Assam outside the Barak Valley who have been selected for the said scholarship this year, said Abdul Jalil, the programme coordinator.

The seminar was held at the Conference Hall of Haji Musafir Khana, Guwahati from January 23 to 25, 2015.

At the inaugural programme on Friday presided over by Assam Zakat Fund’s president Inam Uddin Ahmed and Muslim Education Trust’s (MET) chairman Amanullah Khan said that the different initiatives of MET for the educational development of the minority community whose literacy rate is abysmally low compared to the other communities of the country.

Assam MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed who also addressed the inaugural session, said, “Just ministers and MLAs alone cannot change the face of the society, the administration and civil society should also work hand in hand to bring in positive changes in the society.”

During the evening session on the inaugural day prominent lawyer and the state president of Samajwadi party Hafiz Rashid Ahmed Choudury deliberated on ‘Muslim Personal Law’.

Among many experts who took part in the EDS, Parbin Sultana of University of Science, Technology and Management made a presentation on ‘Position of Women in Islam’.

Ziaur Rahman, a senior journalist spoke on ‘Role of Media in Socioeconomic Development’. A quiz programme for the students was also organised in which prizes were sponsored by AS Tapader of Unity Education Foundation Assam.

The Seminar ended on Sunday. The valedictory session was addressed by former Gauhati university professor Abdul Mannan and Taufique Rahman Borborah, former Principal of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh.
