“Loss of crores of rupees can be prevented if the farmers observe certain precautions, as most of the incidents take place due to carelessness. It is dangerous to pile crops under or near power lines or transformers as it increases the danger of fire by many times,” a Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) spokesperson said here Wednesday.

“Farmers should store their harvested crops at least 50 feet away from the electric lines. Combine harvester should be used with utmost care, especially in those fields which have power lines running overhead.

“Care should be taken while using tractors, threshers or combine harvesters, as their prolonged use could sometimes result in sparks causing fire,” he said.
