Bangladesh strategically important, says US envoy

Dhaka: Newly-appointed US ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W. Mozena Saturday promised to work to promote Bangladesh as a peaceful, secured, healthy, prosperous and democratic country.

“This is good for Bangladesh. This is good for America and this is my vision,” he said after his arrival at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Describing Bangladesh as “strategically important” to America, Mozena said he would work hard to learn more about the country so that Americans could have better understanding about it, the Daily Star reported.

The US ambassador also described Bangladesh and the US as “natural partners”.

Mozena has earlier served in Angola, Zambia, Zaire and South Africa, says the US state department website.
