Meeting on risks of exposing children to dangerous jobs held

Sana’a : A meeting was held in Sana’a on Sunday to spread awareness among members of the Children Parliament and other 30 children on risks of exposing children to dangerous jobs which has been determined by the ministerial decision No. 56 for 2004.

Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Abduh al-Hakimi said that the two-day meeting aims at promoting the decision and spreading awareness over those dangerous works for children under 18 years old.

Officials of Democracy School and director of the International Program of Combating Children Labor Jamila Ali Raja warned of involving children in works that might hurt them physically and psychologically.

They pointed out to the ill cases of children working in agriculture in rural areas due to unsafe use for insecticides.

The decision was based on labor agreement No. 182 that bans all bad kinds of child labor and agreement No. 138 which determines working age which have been issued by the International Labor Organization.

The two agreements have been ratified by Yemen.
