The company said the solutions its centre will develop would enable customers to recover investments faster and reduce the time they take to develop and market a product.

With 30 professionals, the centre will showcase Satyam’s expertise, the company said.

“The centre of excellence is a critical investment we have made. It will provide flexibility and ease of customisation, enabling faster implementations and therefore a better return on investment,” Ram Mynampati, president, commercial and healthcare business of Satyam, told a news conference.

“Life sciences (software solutions) is one of the fastest growing markets and contributes up to six percent of our revenues. We have moved from almost nothing to six percent in 4 years,” he said.

The company works with drug and pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms and medical devices manufacturers in the US, Europe, Asia Pacific and India.

It has 26 customers including half a dozen of the top 10 global pharmaceutical companies. Satyam has 1,300 employees dedicated to developing software related to the life sciences.

“We help customers accelerate drug discovery and get these drugs fast to the market,” said Kishore Rachapudi, global head of life sciences at Satyam.

Satyam already has three such centres in automotive, retail and consumer providers and insurance and financial services.
