The latest study stresses human rights violations in countries like China, Russia and Belarus while explicitly trying to play down the role of human rights breaches in places like the US where thousands of people are on death row, said the online daily ngo.

It pointed out that the rate of prisoners in the US was 10 times higher than those in western Europe, while more than 2,000 American children are serving life-term jail sentences.

The daily said that the selective EU human rights report reflected the ideological and political fight between the super powers Russia, China and the US for global hegemony.

The EU has in the past been severely criticized for its one-sided reports on the state of human rights in many radical leftist and Islamic countries.
