While presenting the Pandit Ramnarayan Vaidya Puraskar at Rashtrapati Bhavan here, she also asked them to try to come out with detailed pharmacopoeia of these products.

She said such efforts would give a boost to exports of ayurvedic medicine.

“The ayurvedic medicine system has many advantages, which need to be brought out and made known to people in a more active way,” she added.

She said during her discussions with leaders of Brazil, Mexico and Chile during her visit last month, she spoke about the ayurvedic system of medicine and presented CDs with details to them.

She presented awards to experts and practitioners for contribution to ayurvedic education and treatment. The Pandit Ramnarayan Vaidya Puraskar is instituted by the Pandit Ramnarayan Vaidya Foundation, based in Nagpur.

While the 2007 award went to T.L. Devraj, the 2006 award was given to Mayaram Uniyal. Others who received the awards were R.H. Singh (2005), Suresh Kumar Chaturvedi (2004) and Haridas Kustere (2003).

Also present on the occasion was Vilas Muttemwar, minister of state for new and renewable energy sources.
