Muslims to hold ‘dharna’ to press for their demands

New Delhi: A joint committee of Muslim organizations of India has decided to organize a ‘token dharna’ in New Delhi on 14th August to press for its demands of Muslim empowerment.

Joint Committee of Muslim Oraganizations for Empowerment (JCMOE) was formed recently by various Muslim organizations. It demands implementation of the recommendations of Justice Sachar Committee report and Ranganath Misha Commission’s recommendation for the empowerment of minorities including Muslims.

Three years of UPA government has not seen much change for the marginalized communities, the statement issued by JCMOE said. “[T]here is a growing disappointment and frustration in the Minorities particularly, the Muslim Community” said the statement issue in a press conference in New Delhi where they declared that state units of JCMOE will organized bandhs to mobilize the Muslims. It is also planning to organize a rally of Muslims in New Delhi in the second week of September.

The mobilization is to exert pressure on the government. JCMOE seeks to “secure the support of all secular forces” identifying “sympathetic political parties and members of the intelligentsia” who are sympathetics to the legitimate aspirations of the Muslim community, read the statement.

The ‘token dharna’ in New Delhi will be held at Jantar Mantar and then they will submit memoranda to the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

JCMOE consists of Jamiat Ulema Hind, Jamaat Islami-e-Hind, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, All India Milli Council, Jamiat Ahle Hadith, Movement for Emplowerment of Muslim Indians, All India Momin Conference, All India Shia Conference, All India Muslim Educational Society, and the Imarat-e-sharia of Bihar.

Mr. Syed Hamid, ex-Vice Chancellor of AMU is the Patron of this new organization.

Recently, All India Qaumi Tanzim, Student Islamic Organization and the Popular Front of India have joined the JCMOE.
