New Delhi : Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking bail and challenging his conviction under the Arms Act in the 1993 Mumbai bombings case.
The petition seeking legal relief for Dutt, undergoing a six-year sentence in a Pune jail, was filed in the apex court’s registry and is expected to come up for mention shortly.
The actor has sought interim bail pending a decision on his appeal challenging the verdict of the anti-terror TADA court in Mumbai.
He said he deserved relief from the court as he had earlier been on bail for about 12 years and had never given the investigating agency or the trial court any reason for complaint. Dutt, who has served 16 months in jail, added that he had exhibited exemplary conduct while he was on bail.
Besides filing the petition seeking bail, Dutt has filed another application stating that he could not attach the judgment of the TADA court as required because it had not been made available to him or any of the others.
He stated that he could not have been convicted on the basis of his confessional statement, which he had later retracted.
