APHC holds sit in against HR violations in Srinagar, Jammu

Srinagar : All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has made an emphatic call for immediate release of thousands of detained Kashmiris languishing in various jails and trial of those responsible for the enforced disappearances in Kashmir by an International Court.

All Party Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq staged a ‘silent protest’ here on Wednesday to express solidarity with the relatives of the disappeared persons during past 17 years in the Valley.

Meanwhile Jammu unit of APHC also held a protest demonstration in Jammu against the ongoing human rights violations in the state. The protesters were led by Des Raj Sharma and joined by delegates of peoples Conference, Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement.

Hundreds of relatives of missing persons joined the Mirwaiz at Sher-e-Kashmir Municipal Park to press for the demand of whereabouts of thousands of persons who went missing since the outbreak of insurgency in late eighties.

Addressing on the occasion, Mirwaiz termed the enforced disappearances as a serious issue and charged the government of India and state government of maintaining a criminal silence over the issue. He said that thousands of people have disappeared mysteriously during past seventeen years bringing human misery to their relatives.

He demanded that action should be taken against those responsible for disappearances of innocent Kashmiris in International Court adding that APHC has decided to hold a demonstration on the issue of disappearances as part of its campaign to highlight human rights violations in Kashmir.

Former chairman of APHC, Prof. Abdul Gani alleged that more than 10000 persons have disappeared during past seventeen years. He said that state terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has taken a heavy toll of Kashmiris.

Many senior Hurriyat leaders including Aga Syed Al Mousvi, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Zaffar Akbar Bhat and others also joined the sit-in.

Peoples Conference chairman of his faction Bilal Gani Lone was also present during the sit-in.
