Spaniard Grabri scored the only goal of the match in the 43rd minute when he shot home from inside the box after a bunch of PSV defenders failed to clear the ball from the danger area.

As four of its strikers are injured or suspended, PSV, the defending Dutch first division league champions, put on a defensive line-up with Brazilian forward Jonathan Reis alone in the front.

The Super Cup is the curtain-raiser of the new season of Dutch football. It usually pits last season’s Dutch first division champions and the KNVB (the Royal Netherlands Football Association) Cup winners.

Ajax finished second behind PSV in the league, and won the KNVB Cup.

For Ajax, the win against PSV was a confidence-booster ahead of its clash with Sparta Prague in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League Wednesday.
