Kolkata Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee told IANS that one person was brought dead from the scene to the SSKM Hospital in the vicinity while three others were seriously injured.

“We are investigating if the explosion was due to a cylinder blast in the kitchen or something else,” Mukherjee said.

He said the explosion occurred at 9.40 a.m. at the restaurant opposite the city’s famous cake and coffee shop Flury’s.

“Our senior officers and fire brigade personnel were there,” he said.

The impact of the blast shattered the windows of some private cars parked nearby.

Traffic was affected on the street, which has some of the city’s favourite food joints, bars, music stores and discotheques on either side besides The Park hotel.
