Kolkata : The recovery of an explosive like device on a stationary train sparked a bomb scare at the Howrah station Wednesday but the object turned out to be an electronic circuit an engineering student had forgotten.
“The device is an electronic circuit of some student and not an explosive. Even the roll number of the student was found on the object,” West Bengal Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Raj Kanojia told IANS.
Howrah Superintendent of Railway Police P.K. Sanyal said the object was detected around 6 a.m. in a compartment of Ganadevta Express bound for Shantiniketan and Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum district.
The detection created a flutter, and the city’s bomb squad personnel rushed to the scene.
West Bengal celebrated the 60th anniversary of India’s independence day with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya unfurling the national flag in front of the state secretariat Writers’ Buildings.
Earlier, Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi joined a prayer meeting at Gandhi Ghat in Barrackpore on the city’s outskirts on the banks of the Ganges.
