Rajasthan to get Narmada, says Raje

Jodhpur : Rajasthan has plans to bring in the Narmada in order to overcome a severe water crisis plaguing the state, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced Wednesday.

“Plans are afoot to bring the Narmada water to parts of the state soon,” the chief minister said at her Independence Day speech in Jodhpur. “By 2008 we plan to provide sweet water in Barmer.”

She admitted that there was a serious shortage of drinking water in Rajasthan.

Raje said the government had identified land to set up a hospital matching the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) of New Delhi in Jodhpur.

She said her government was also taking steps to improve medical, health and energy situation in the state.

“We are heading towards providing 24 hour electricity in all the villages.”

Before addressing the public at the Old Stadium here, Raje unfurled the national flag.
