Islamabad : Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has quit international cricket after being overlooked for next month’s Twenty20 world championships in South Africa and is reported to have agreed to join the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL).
The 27-year-old has played 46 Tests and 231 one-day internationals. Razzaq has scored 1,946 runs and taken 100 wickets in Tests, while hitting 4,465 runs and claiming 246 wickets in ODIs.
The all-rounder denied having signed a deal to join ICL but said he was disillusioned with the way the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had treated him.
“They dropped me but none of them bothered to call me up and tell me why I was dropped,” he told Pakistan’s Geo television.
“Their attitude has hurt and disappointed me a lot, which is why I have decided to retire from international cricket.”
He missed the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean due to a knee injury and, along with Mohammad Yousuf and Younis Khan, is among three players who did not sign PCB’s central contracts.
But Razzaq has refused to rule out a U-turn, saying: “There can be a reconciliation, but the board has to listen to the grievances of the players.”
PCB chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed is hoping the player will change his mind.
“I still believe that Razzaq has a future in Pakistan cricket and he should reconsider his decision,” he said.
