New Delhi : After back to back wins in the ongoing Nehru Cup international football tournament, the Indian team decided to take a day off Tuesday from practice but injury to defender Deepak Mondal is worrying the team management.

The defender suffered an injury to his left knee Monday, during India’s 1-0 win against neighbours Bangladesh and had to be rushed for an x-ray right after the match. The player was taken for MRI Tuesday afternoon and it was revealed that fluid had accumulated in his knee.

As of now, the defender is out of India’s crucial match against title favourites Syria Thursday. In fact it won’t be surprising if he is ruled out of the tournament. Incidentally, Mondal had to undergo knee surgery two years back on his right knee.

“Immediately after the impact on the field, I felt that some problem would be there,” Mondal said Tuesday.

Mid-fielder N.P. Pradeep, who scored in the opening match against Cambodia, is yet to be declared fit. He also suffered a knee-injury.

The mood in the Indian camp was quiet relaxed and the players preferred to stay indoors and watched the replay of their match against Bangladesh.
