New Delhi : Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading private service operators, will soon approach the Indian telecom watchdog over its earlier order that consumers should not be charged extra for rectification and repair of its landline services.
“We have taken note of the regulator’s decision and communicated on the compliance. We shall be engaging with the regulator to apprise them of complete details on these customer requirements and services,” Airtel said in a statement Wednesday.
“As a leading telecom service provider, we are fully committed to providing our customers with uninterrupted network availability and service delivery. However, at times, we are requested by customers to attend to problems and defects not attributable to network and not part of standard service bouquet such as PC reconfiguration, internal extension of wiring, damage due to movement etc.,” it added.
Concerned over a growing number of complaints from consumers, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had Tuesday asked all telecom operators to refund the extra charges levied by them for rectification and repair of landline services, especially Bharti Airtel.
“The interruptions and rectifying such interruptions are matters relating to service and quality of such service and customers cannot be charged to rectify such interruptions,” the regulator said.
The regulator also asked the operators to refund the charges and gave them seven days to report on compliance.
