Noida : A young girl suffered burn injuries after being attacked with inflammable liquid in Nithari village here, a place on the outskirts of the national capital which had hit international headlines for the macabre killings of at least 20 young girls and women by an alleged psychopath last year.
Rinki Sharma, 17, was admitted to hospital with 25 percent burn injuries early Wednesday. She was allegedly attacked by her neighbour Vinod, while she was asleep on the terrace of her home along with her mother.
Rinki has suffered burn injuries on her face, chest, shoulders and neck, but doctors said her condition was stable. The accused Vinod, a carpenter, managed to flee from the spot.
“The girl (Rinki) has suffered 25 percent burn injuries and is recovering quickly. She was attacked with hydrogen peroxide, an inflammable chemical, which has caused severe burns on her body,” said Deepak Kumar Sexsena, a doctor treating the girl.
The victim in her complaint to the police stated that someone threw a chemical on her at around 2.00 a.m.
“I could not see the attacker as my eyes were shut due to the effect of the chemical. I screamed for help and my father took me to hospital,” she said.
After registering a case, police detained five of her neighbours.
“In the morning we had detained five people, but later they were released as it was revealed in investigations that she was attacked by one Vinod for personal revenge,” said Superintendent of Police (city) Paresh Pandey.
“It is also established that Vinod used to regularly pass lewd comments on her and in protest the girl had slapped him in front of other villagers last month. It seems that to take revenge he had attacked the girl,” Pandey told IANS.
Pandey added that various teams have been sent to nab him and he would be arrested soon.
Earlier this month a similar incident had shocked the capital, when a fashion designer was allegedly doused with an inflammable liquid and set on fire by two unidentified men outside her upscale Greater Kailash-II home.
