Hyderabad : Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi escaped unhurt in a road accident, which he alleged was an attempt by his political rivals to kill him.
The legislator’s Volkswagen car was badly damaged as a truck hit the vehicle near Abdullahpurmet, about 40 km from here, Thursday night. Akbaruddin, along with three others, was going to Nalgonda to attend a party meeting.
The legislator said when his car was near Abdullahpurmet, a truck tried to overtake from the left side and hit his vehicle thrice. His car hit the road divider before coming to a halt while the truck sped away. Akbaruddin said he could not note down the truck’s registration number in the dark.
He has not lodged a complaint with the police but told newsmen that it was a deliberate attempt by his rivals to kill him.
However, he did not name the rivals he believed were involved in the attack.
Akbaruddin was recently in the news for allegedly threatening to kill controversial Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasreen for blasphemy. Nasreen had escaped an attack by some MIM legislators and workers last month at the Hyderabad Press Club.
MIM, which has its stronghold in the Muslim-majority old city of Hyderabad, has five members in the assembly.
