Trissur (Kerala) : Police were Sunday probing if a fake currency racket originating in Pakistan was the source of funding for the twin blasts in Hyderabad Saturday.
Two Keralites, Hamza, 42, and his associate Mohammed Ali, 41, were Saturday night arrested from Chavakad in Trissur district by a special team of the Hyderabad police team for their involvement in transferring fake currency notes printed in Pakistan to Hyderabad.
Police said the duo had cleared a container with currency notes nominally worth Rs.27.5 million and printed in Pakistan. The two were taken to Hyderabad Saturday night itself.
Police were investigating if those behind the twin blasts in Hyderabad had used the fake currency racket for funding their activities.
As many as 42 people died and 70 were injured in two powerful blasts at a crowded amusement park and a popular eatery in Hyderabad Saturday evening.
The 2005-06 annual report of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) reveals that Kerala is a hot bed for illegal activities like counterfeit currency and smuggling of arms, ammunition and drugs from Pakistan to India.
