Gaza : A spokesman for Islamic Hamas movement, which is sworn to Israel’s destruction, Saturday slammed the renewal of security cooperation between the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and Israel.
Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, said in a statement that “security coordination (with Israel) is a moral, political and security decline,” which “we will keep slamming, revealing and resisting.”
“This security coordination and cooperation is a humiliation to our people’s dignity and contradicts with our national interests,” said Barhoum.
Hamas’ condemnation came after word saying that Palestinians in the Hamas-run Gaza Strip will be allowed to travel to Egypt through Israel on Sunday.
The first group to leave is made up of some 100 people, most of them students who have admissions at universities in Egypt and other countries, said Hussein al-Sheikh, the official in charge of civil coordination with Israel.
Al-Sheikh said the Gazans can travel after having the procedures done via the civil coordination office in Gaza, which reports to the caretaker government in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Israel imposed a tightened siege on the Gaza Strip after Hamas defeated President Mahmoud Abbas’ security forces and took control of the poor enclave in mid-June.
Palestinians living in the enclave who need to travel outside of Gaza must coordinate their exit and their arrival with Israel. But Israel refused to coordinate operation of crossings and terminals with Hamas. Instead it preferred to coordinate with Abbas’ authority in Ramallah.
Between late last month and earlier this month, Israel has let some 6,000 Palestinians stranded in Egypt back to the Gaza Strip via Israel soil.
