Bangalore : Karnataka police were on high alert across the state with extra vigil at public places and vital installations in the capital city following Saturday’s twin blasts in Hyderabad.
“We have put our men on high alert across the state and stepped up vigil along the border with Andhra Pradesh following the twin blasts in Hyderabad late Saturday,” state director-general of police K. R. Srinivasan told IANS.
“Security has also been intensified in VIP areas, airports, railway stations, bus stands, markets and vital installations.”
On the advice of the Union home ministry and the intelligence agencies, top police brass in the 26 districts and four ranges across the state have been asked to keep a close watch at places of worship, tourist spots and crowded areas for any suspicious movement and inspect vehicular traffic at the inter-state borders.
“We are deploying additional forces in public places, including temples, mosques and churches in Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum, Dharmasthala, Sringeri, Kukke Subrahmanya, Kollur, Udupi, Gokarna, Iskcon temple and Chamundeshwari temple.
“People alighting or boarding flights, trains and buses are being frisked and their luggage inspected by the bomb disposal cell, bomb detection squad and the police dog squad,” Srinivasan said after a security review meeting here.
The state police also directed the officials concerned to tighten security at reservoirs, monuments and heritage sites to prevent any possible terror attack. Sensitive areas of Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Udupi, Chikamagalur, Mysore and other places have been put under surveillance.
“Though we have no official communication or feedback on the blasts from the Andhra Police, we are not taking any chances,” Srinivasan said.
Hotels, lodges and cinema theatres in the city are also being checked.
Meanwhile, Chief Minster H. D. Kumaraswamy has condemned the blasts and expressed grief over loss of innocent lives.
