Gaza : An Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) leader in Gaza Tuesday denied reports that he had submitted his vision of ending Gaza crisis to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of the rival Fatah group.
“These reports about the proposal are untrue… things between Fatah and us have reached a deadlock because they refuse to talk to Hamas,” Mahmoud Zahar told reporters.
Abbas sacked a short-lived unity government headed by Hamas when the Islamic movement seized control of the Gaza Strip in June. He also formed a Fatah-influenced government ruling from the West Bank.
Zahar reiterated that his movement wants a comprehensive dialogue with Fatah while rejecting the preconditions outlined by Abbas.
Before any talks, Abbas wants Hamas to give up its control on the Gaza Strip, evacuate security compounds seized after the fighting and recognize the legitimacy of the caretaker government headed by Salam Fayyad.
Earlier, an Israeli radio station reported that Zahar has handed over his proposal to Abbas via a mediator and Abbas has seriously dealt with the plan.
