Tehran : Head of Tehran Islamic City Council said here Monday Libyan Leader Moammar Qaddafi is beyond doubt responsible for lives and security of Imam Mussa Sadr and his accompanying delegation.
Mahdi Chamran made the comment at a gathering sponsored by Lebanese Amal Movement here in Tehran on 30th anniversary of the abduction of the leader of the Lebanese Shi’as, and founder of Amal Movement, Imam Moussa Sadr.
He added, “It is not an acceptable excuse from Libya that these three people were kidnapped by members of such and such groups, since beyond doubt the Libyan leader was, and still is responsible for the move, and this blot cannot be cleared off his reputation.” The head of Tehran City Council pointed out that Imam Moussa Sadr and two of his companions were official guests of Moammar Qaddafi and the Libyan Government.
Referring to some claims made by Libyan officials that Imam Moussa Sadr had left the Libyan soil for Italy, Chamran said, “The Italian officials right after the first time when this claim was made surveyed the matter and clearly announced that Imam Moussa Sadr had not entered Italy through any of that country’s borders.”
Considering the kidnapping of Imam Sadr “an international plot”, he said, “I believe the Marxist and leftist parties that have a noticeable presence in Libya, hand in hand with the world powers and Imperialism, feeling threatened due to the victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, feared the influence of Imam Mussa Sadr in Arab world and the Middle East.”
He added, “Therefore, they decided to kidnap Imam Moussa Sadr to deprive both Lebanon, and the Arab world of him, and to leave Imam Khomeini alone.”
Pointing out that that international plot is annulled by grace of God, he said, “Their plots are thanks God reversed today, since they have failed in blocking the path for the spread of the vivacious ideology behind the Islamic Revolution of Iran.”
Chamran posed the question, “What should we do now?”, Adding, “I believe we are responsible for pursuing the matter.”
He added, “The Islamic World clerics, too, are responsible, since a government has abducted a Shi’a source of jurisprudence, the universities and academic staff, the Islamic and Arabic governments, and particularly the Islamic Republic of Iran and Lebanon, are responsible more than the others, and this responsibility would never be annihilated, or even diminished.”
