New Delhi : Now sending a letter to your loved ones is just a phone call away!
The India Post has launched a 24×7 call centre in the national capital, which will not only answers general queries but will also rush out a postman to your doorsteps to collect the mail.
All you need to do is dial the four-digit toll free number 1256 if you are in Delhi and 1800-11-9888 nationally, and ask for a free pick up of Speed Post articles.
“The call centre will also provide information regarding Speed Post, track and trace Speed Post articles, register complaints, provide for free pick up of Speed Post articles, and provide all possible information regarding other services, both premium and traditional,” said Raghav Lal, Chief Postmaster General of Delhi.
“The postman or other concerned staff will come to your place to collect the mail. They will also issue a receipt,” Lal added.
Asked about if this service would also collect the money orders Lal said: “We are not accepting money-orders for this service as it requires money handling at a large scale, but we have initiated other services for the speedy disposal of money-orders.”
These include the Internet-based Instant Money Order (IMO) service, under which customers can transfer sums of up to Rs. 50,000 to any place in India by the click of the mouse.
“We will instantly issue a code to the customers after sending their money to the required destination. The customer only has to tell the code to the person to whom the money has been sent. This person will get the money by giving the code and showing identification documents at the post office.” Lal said.
He said that the new initiatives were taken to bring in a more customer- friendly approach.
Post offices in Delhi serve, on an average, an area of 2.82 sq.km each in urban and 1.9 sq.km in rural areas, with a population of about 26,000 and 12,000 respectively.
