The violence erupted around 12.30 p.m. after a television news channel Live India telecast a sting operation showing Uma Khurana, Mathematics teacher of Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya on Asaf Ali Road in Daryaganj area of central Delhi, allegedly forcing girl students into prostitution and to act in porn films.

The school has over 1,000 girl students.

According to sources, the teacher was providing private tuition classes to girl students at her Preet Vihar home, and would give the girls, especially those aged between 15-18, drinks laced with sedatives.

“When the girls fell unconscious, she would film them nude along with her accomplices. Khurana was also urging them to get into prostitution.”

“After making the porn films Khurana would blackmail and threaten the teenagers with dire consequences if they told anyone. It appears to be a big racket and some prominent people could be a party to this,” the source told IANS.

The racket was exposed after one of the girl students approached the television news channel.

After viewing the clip, hundreds of people gathered outside the school and smashed windowpanes of the school building demanding immediate arrest of the teacher. The teacher has been arrested.

The school authorities have suspended the teacher and the state education ministry has started investigations into the matter.

“We have appointed an executive committee to probe the allegations and strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” a senior official from the ministry said.

The infuriated people also damaged several buses and torched at least three vehicles. They forced the markets nearby to close down and blocked all vehicular movement in and around the area. Police had to fire tear gas shells and resort to baton charge to control the angry crowds.

“Madam Khurana should be handed over to the public and we will mete her justice ourselves. We will not spare her and the others involved in it,” said Neelam, mother of a Class 5 student.

“We can’t believe what was shown on the television. The matter should be thoroughly probed by a judicial magistrate,” said another angry parent Rajesh Kumar.

According to police, extra personnel have been deployed in the area and the situation is under control.

“We are investigating the matter. We will also be asking the news channel for tapes for further investigations,” Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

“At present our priority is to maintain law and order, so we can’t say anything about the matter” Bhagat added.

Khurana was transferred to the school from its Vivek Vihar branch last month.
