MP Governor expresses deep concern over incidents like ‘Godhra progrom’

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Governor Dr. Balram Jakhar has taken a dig on the fundamental organisations and expressed deep concern over the incidents like ‘Godhra progrom’.

Dr. Jakhar said: “Such incidents make me feel that we failed to achieve our dream, what we have nurtured during the freedom struggle”. Godhra is one such example, which reminds me that we failed to achieve anything in last more than 50 years of Independence, he added.

He said I dislike people and political parties who do politics on the name of religion. This is the best time when people should uproot such people from coming into power. The media should step in and strip such people who do politics on the name of religion.

The Governor was addressing a seminar on ‘Media’s Role and Responsibility in Arm Conflict’ organised by Journalism Department of Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism & Communication (MCNUJC) in association with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Indian Press Institute here on Thursday.

With dim voice the Governor also recalled his 1947 partition memories. He said, there is no big pain than separation and my eyes, heart and ear are witness to it. He alarmed people to elect such public figures who are going to work for the welfare and development of society and people.

The seminar was also addressed by chairperson of Madhya Pradesh Human Right Commission, Justice D.M. Dharmadhikari, Indian Press Institute director Arun Chacko and Philip Stole of International Committee of the Red Cross.

Chacko delivered the welcome speech, followed by a keynote address by Justice Dharmadhikari. He encouraged journalist and students of journalism. He also expresed concerns over the rules for the welfare and protection of journalist. He urged students to be impartial and well balanced in opinion.

Vice Chancellor of MCNUJC Achyutanand Mishra also encouraged student in his short speech.

In the second session of programme Surendra Singh Oberoi, Communication Officer of ICRC delivered lecture on the international humanitarian laws. He also gave suggestion cum precaution for the war reporting. AK Singh also suggested his experiences of war reporting. John Nicholas, Deputy Head of the Regional Delegation for South Asia informed students about the history of Red Cross Society, its rescue operations during the wartime. He also informed in brief about international rules for the war and how Red Cross helps to the common people as well as journalist on the field.
