IMC-USA commemorates the 15th anniversary of Babri Masjid’s demolition

Indian Muslim Council – USA (http://www.imc-usa.org), an advocacy group dedicated towards safeguarding India’s pluralist and tolerant ethos, marks the 15th anniversary of Babri Masjid’s destruction with sadness.

In a press release issued by the US based group, it reminded the Indian Government the promise that previous Congress Prime Minister Mr. P. V. Narsimha Rao made to the nation soon after the destruction of the Babri Masjid. In a nationally televised speech Mr. Rao promised to rebuild the Babri Masjid.

Drawing attention to the fact that no substantial action has been taken even after 15 years, Mr. Rasheed Ahmed, President of the IMC-USA said, “It is a tragedy in itself that no one has been punished for one of the greatest crimes of post-Independence India.”
IMC-USA also registered its anger on the fact that the Liberhan Commission, which was setup to look into the reasons and persons behind the demolition of the Babri Masjid, have yet to turn in its report. The original three month term has been extended 42 times so far with no report in sight.

Syed Ali Rahman, the spokesperson for IMC-USA, noted, “Babri Masjid was a sacred and historical monument and it was destroyed with full impunity. Every single day of justice delayed makes the secular fabric of India that much weaker.”

IMC-USA demands that court cases of the title suit of the Babri Masjid be expedited. We note with satisfaction that Muslims of India have always put their faith in the judiciary and are ready to accept the judgment whichever way it goes. We request our Hindu brethren to do the same. This is the only way of ensuring that the rule of law is upheld in India. India resolving its sensitive conflicts and disputes between two of its communities will be an example for the world to see.
