Dhaka : The remains of Bangaldesh’s liberation war hero Bir Shreshtha Sipahi Hamidur Rahman is to be brought home from Tripura in India for a ceremonial burial, 36 years after he died fighting Pakistani forces.
A Bangladeshi delegation would land in the Tripura capital Agartala to bring back his remains on Friday.
Rahman’s remains would be taken by road to Comilla through the Bibirbazar post on the Indo-Bangladesh border Monday, New Age newspaper said.
The coffin would be ceremonially received by Bangladesh President Iajuddin Ahmed and would be buried at the graveyard reserved for freedom fighters at Mirpur on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Rahman is one of the seven heroes honoured with the highest gallantry award (Bir Shreshtha) for their contribution in the independence war of 1971.
He was killed fighting Pakistani forces in the Ambasa area of Tripura Oct 28, 1971, and was buried there.
