Representatives of eleven-member news agencies of the OANA Executive Committee during their 29th meeting unanimously voted in favor of the entire 31 articles of Tehran Declaration Draft.

IRNA’s proposal for hosting the 14th OANA General Assembly in the year 2008, too, was approved by the members. OANA General Assembly is convened once every three years, while OANA executive and technical committees meet every year in one of the member countries.

IRNA has in addition to presiding the 10th General Assembly of OANA, whose period began in 1997 and ended in the year 2000, has always been one of the deputy heads of the OANA.

Indonesia’s ANTARA official news agency was elected on Wednesday as the president of OANA Secretary General for three years, during which the members of the General Assembly, its four deputies, and OANA Executive Committee’s six members, too, would remain at charge.

OANA is now 46 years old, and it was established when in 1961 the UNESCO proposed the establishment of strong regional news agencies in order to assure the free flow of authentic information.

The 13th OANA General Assembly would be officially opened here on Tuesday with an address by the Indonesian Vice President Yousof Cala.
