Lucknow : A former Lucknow University student leader and his associate were shot dead by gunmen shortly after they had dined together, police said Tuesday.
Vinod Tripathi, a former general secretary of the university’s student union, and his associate Gaurav Singh were gunned down near their Nehru Enclave apartment after midnight Monday.
According to police officer Subash Chandra Dubey, a hunt was on for Jay Singh, Sudhakar and Anshu Dixit, the suspected killers.
The assailants and victims were friends and had dined together Monday night. But Jay Singh and Gaurav Singh scuffled over a minor issue, and an annoyed Jay Singh left the restaurant in a huff.
Tripathi and Gaurav Singh went after them in a bid to pacify them. But Jay Singh, the police said, first shot down Gaurav. When Tripathi protested, he met the same fate. The killers fled.
