40 Maoists escape from Chhattisgarh jail

Raipur : At least 80 prisoners including 40 Maoist rebels Sunday evening overpowered security guards and escaped from a sub-jail in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, officials said.

“Around 80 inmates including at least 40 Maoists overpowered jail authorities and walked away around 5 p.m.,” Director General (Jail) Sant Kumar Paswan said.

They also took away weapons of the guard son duty, Paswan told IANS on telephone from Dantewada, about 380 km from here.

Police forces soon reached the jail and an operation was launched by District Superintendent of Police Rahul Sharma to nab those who had escaped, he said.
