Ahmedabad : The Election Commission has charged Gujarat Education Minister Anandiben Patel with violating the poll conduct after she allegedly distributed saris among voters in Patan constituency.
Anandiben, who scraped through in 2002 from Patan in north Gujarat, was served a notice late Saturday, officials said Sunday.
The minister was apparently also asking people to take a pledge to vote for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She took umbrage at an Election Commission video cameraman recording her activities.
A member of Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s inner circle, the minister has never been popular with the teaching fraternity. She has often incurred teachers’ fury over her alleged haughty attitude.
Their dislike has now become public with leaflets urging voters not to vote for her.
