New Delhi : Vinod Rai, who serves the finance ministry as the secretary for financial services, will be the new comptroller and auditor-general of India, it was announced here Monday.
The appointment is effective from the day Rai assumes the new office, an official statement issued by the finance ministry said.
Rai belongs to the 1972 batch of the Indian Administrative Service with the Kerala cadre.
Harvard-educated Rai succeeds V.N. Kaul, also a member of the civil service.
The office of the Comptroller and Auditor-General of India is the supreme audit institution in the country that watches over the accounts and financial statements prepared by the government and its undertakings.
The findings and reports of this constitutional authority are submitted to the president, who causes them to be tabled in parliament.
