Fake currency racket busted in Bhopal

Bhopal : A fake currency racket has been busted here with the arrest of four people and seizure of Rs.600,000 in fake notes from their possession, the police said Wednesday.

“The police have recovered Rs.600,000 in fake currency notes in the denominations of Rs.100, Rs.500 and Rs.1,000. A scanner, a coloured photocopy machine, a computer and paper used for printing the notes were also seized,” Bhopal Superintendent of Police Jaideep Prasad told IANS.

“The accused used to scan the notes of different denominations before taking out their prints. Later they would exchange it by giving Rs.100,000 in fake currency for genuine Rs.20,000,” Prasad said.

The police team acting on a tip off raided a hotel room in the Old City Tuesday to detain the accused. The team had sent a constable as a decoy customer to strike a deal with Raja, alias Ashish Agrawal, 24, a resident of Hoshangabad who was staying at the hotel.

During interrogation, Raja revealed the names of his other three associates Shobharam Vishkarma, 30, Sewaram, 42, and Dheeraj, alias Dhruv, 48. All three were later arrested.

Raja used to scan and print the currency, while the other three used to look for customers to strike a deal.

The police are also investigating bank employees and local traders for their involvement in the racket. The police have detained over a dozen people in connection to the case.
