NEW DELHI, Dec 23 (KUNA) — The Indian Air Force (IAF) will acquire advanced radars from Italy as part of India’s efforts to safeguard its coastal region.
As per the euro 52 million deal between the European radar major Finmeccania SPA and India’s state-run Bharat electronics limited, the IAF would get 13 ATCR33S primary radars and another 13 SirS secondary radars from Italy, an official in the Indian Defence Ministry told reporters at Delhi Sunday. This would boost IAF’s capability to maintain vigilance over almost 300 to 500 nautical miles away from India’s coast, the official said. “The new radars will also strengthen the IAF’s move to place the Aerostat mobile radars acquired from Israel in the country’s coastal region to safeguard the nuclear reactors in the Southern states of India,” the official added The radar systems will be delivered by Italy to India within three years and India also could co-produce the radars under technology transfer deal.
